The mountains are covered, the Cypriots have prepared their bags for Athens ahead of a three-day trip

The suspension of measures against the pandemic and the prevailing good weather conditions changed the mood of the citizens, who prepared their bags for a few days of escape from everyday life, in view of the three days of October 28.

In the previous two years or so, the pandemic, the war in Ukraine and the economic crisis that had just emerged, had created serious problems in the tourism sector, but this three-day period brought smiles again, both to hoteliers and to travel organizers.< /p>

As it turns out, most chose to spend the three days in the mountainous areas, with accommodation occupancy reaching 90%, while it seems that the first choices are the areas of Agros, Platres, Kalopanagiotis and Pedoulas. At the same time, according to the general manager of the Pancypriot Association of Hoteliers (PASYXE) Philokypro Rousounidis, there are many who have chosen seaside accommodation, mainly towards Paphos.

Mr. Rousounidis, speaking to REPORTER, he said that the mountain areas have their honor for the three days, but “because these are small accommodations, they reached high levels of occupancy. The areas they chose are the ones that are common during this period (Platres, Argos, Kalopanagiotis etc.), however there is also a large number of reservations in coastal areas, mainly in Paphos. Then follow the free area of Famagusta, Limassol and then Larnaca”.

Accommodation reservations were made much earlier and as Mr. Rousounidis said, the prices fluctuated at the same levels and without any particular increases. after the hoteliers absorbed the increased costs, so that the prices remained at reasonable levels. “The prices ranged from 70-80 euros a night for two people with breakfast”, he noted.

Athens and Thessaloniki first destinations in preferences

Of course, there are also those who at the first opportunity get ready to get on a plane and the three days is a very good opportunity for a short trip. For this reason, most have chosen nearby destinations, such as the cities of Athens and Thessaloniki, with travel agent packages ranging around 300 euros per person, including accommodation.

The airports of Cyprus will be full of people, however, apart from Athens and Thessaloniki, according to the honorary president of the association of travel agents, Akis Kelepesii, Cypriots showed their preference for Vienna, London and Rome.

The prices for each destination are different and as Mr. Kelepesiis said, the packages will be very expensive for those who decide to board a plane at the last minute, because even if they find a place to travel, they will pay twice as much.< /p>

“The package prices were very good. For example, for Athens and Thessaloniki the package was 300 euros. For London the package was 650 euros and Rome was 500 euros. Most passengers will fly from Larnaca airport. It seems that people travel more easily now,” said Mr. Kelepesiis.

The three-day period on October 28, is the last of 2022 and the occupancy, both in accommodation and passenger traffic, has brought a ray of optimism. in the tourism sector that has been affected, about what will happen for the new year.
