In the European program Interreg Euro-MED, the Municipality of Akamas participates through which it promotes the creation of a solar park.
The Municipality is expected to utilize other European funds in this direction, according to the Mayor of Akamas Marino Lambrou.
According to Mr. Lambrou, six countries participate in the Interreg Euro-MED program and it concerns renewable energy sources. The Municipality of Akamas has received approval after submitting a relevant proposal with the aim of creating a solar park.
The Local Authority has secured after the approval of its proposal the amount of 0.5 million euros for the creation of a solar park in the area of the Municipal Stadium of Pegeia.
The timetable for completing the solar park is 33 months.
Mr. Lambrou mentioned that the Local Authority is preparing several plans for the utilization of other European funds.
In his statements, Mr. Lambrou reiterated that one of the priorities he sets is the promotion of the construction project of the Tombs of the Kings-Pegia road. The specific road network, said Mr. Lambrou, which connects Paphos with the Municipality of Pegeia on the coast must be implemented immediately since, he explained, it is the most important project that will facilitate passing drivers.
Mr. Lambrou also described the issue of promoting the construction of the Pafos marina project as an urgent need. This, he continued, is a project that will bring change to the new Municipality of Akamas but also to the entire province.
He pointed out that the Paphos marina, with a capacity of a thousand boats, will be created on an area of 155,000 sq.m. of which the 40,000 sq.m. will be used for residential tourism and cultural development, while another 2,500 sq.m. they will house other services, such as clinics and reception areas. This will contribute to the development of maritime tourism with all the benefits for the wider region, he added.
Next, he also referred to the promotion of the issue of the forest park and noted that it must to be completed immediately in order to give life and development to the communities of Akamas.
