Summer persists, the particularly high temperatures have returned and a refreshing, refreshing and very cool idea for an excursion today are the sea caves in Ayia Napa, which due to their imposing shape are described in travel guides as the “natural palaces of Cyprus”.

For all those who may be wondering, there are of course impressively carved caves in many other parts of the island's coastline, and especially those north of Paphos town are also popular.

However, it is not surprising that the caves of Ayia Napa attract a huge number of visitors every year and are almost always included in the tourist boat trips of the area, as it is indeed a small miracle of nature that deserves to be seen up close. The caves are specifically located between the beach of Kermia and the cape of Cabo Greco and are considered very important both from a geological and a wider environmental point of view.

Essentially, on a towering rock, a semicircular, like a painted formation has been carved over the centuries and by the constant action of the waves, which creates the caves, which stand next to each other, causing awe and wonder to behold. Although most tourists mainly visit the caves on the mini-cruises that leave during the season from both Ayia Napa and Protaras, the area can be reached both by road and on foot via a specially designed path.

The season we are going through is probably the most suitable to visit the caves, as it is not expected to be crowded with people and you will be able to see them with more peace and enjoyment. For those who prefer to walk there, they should follow the 4.5 km long coastal path located on the eastern side of Ayia Napa, which traverses the rocky coast and offers continuous panoramic and elevated views towards the sea.

However, it is recommended to wear closed sports shoes, comfortable clothing and a hat, while if you want to go by road, it would be good to do so carefully and without developing a high speed.

Cycling is also suitable for sports fans and it is worth noting that the small church of Agioi Anargyri is also nearby.

Excavations carried out in the 1990s indicate that the area was actually one of the most ancient Neolithic settlements on the island.
