The parliamentary Committee on Transport, Communications and Works is discussing today the request of the entire province of Paphos for the launch of a flight from its airport to Athens.
The parliamentary committee deals with the joint intervention and registration of the issue by the four MPs of Paphos, who in their relevant intervention pointed out that the non-existence of flights from Paphos to Athens, is an event which is particularly difficult for the residents of Paphos. The abolition of the Paphos-Athens air link, results in the indignation of the residents of Paphos and not only, as while they would have the facility to travel to Athens easily and quickly, they are forced to go to Larnaca airport with significant additional costs and effort, they mention.
At today's meeting of the Committee, the four Paphos MPs will reiterate the fact that flights from Paphos to Athens, even once a week, are a pan-provincial request of organizations, local authorities and ordinary citizens. It is a sought after and daily destination for tourists, professionals, students and their parents, they observe, with the periods when there were occasional such flights being all without exception overcrowded. The refusal to launch such a flight, according to the deputies, causes huge practical and financial problems to the citizens of Paphos, as they are forced to pay many times in relation to the price of the ticket for the travel expenses to and from Larnaca, for their parking in Larnaca airport, but also the lost hours on the road when in 10-15 minutes they would be from their homes inside the plane.
“In the light of the above, it is deemed necessary to reconsider and give the green light for the Athens-Paphos air connection, for the benefit of the social and economic development of Paphos”, the deputies point out.
