The consultations held in the Security Council on the content of the resolution for the renewal of the term of UNFICYP have now passed to “15”. The five permanent members came up with a text on Friday with improvements over the original one presented by the British and sent it to the other members, who are meeting today at expert level.
The aim of the Cypriot side is in the plan not only to clearly reflect the reference to 1251 – which speaks of the basis for a solution to the Cyprus problem – and the relevant resolutions for Cyprus, but also to take into account in the effort the volume of work done to date .
The Security Council is expected to adopt the resolution in open session on Thursday (January 28th).
