With the approval of the Political Declaration, the Political Congress of the Democratic Party was completed, the first to be held with simultaneous physical and online presence of the delegates, thus utilizing a valuable tool for strengthening the communication of the party with its members, technology.

The Political Declaration of the party, defines the framework within which DIKO will move in view of the Presidential Elections of 2023, seeking contacts with all parliamentary forces, except ELAM, with non-parliamentary parties and organizations.

At the end of this process and when all the facts will be presented to the party, the final decisions will be made collectively.

In his speech, the President of DIKO, Mr. Nikolas Papadopoulos referred to the critical situation in which our country and people are, expressing the confidence that the Democratic Party can worthily stand up to the circumstances and respond to the insurmountable need to get out of finances. , social and national impasses.

Referring to the content of the Political Declaration, Mr. Papadopoulos added that the goal of DIKO is to make a new beginning and lead Cyprus to a New Era of prosperity, hope and recovery, at a time when our country will win again. its lost credibility and dignity and in an era where we will restore hope for the resolution of the Cyprus problem “. 

Regarding the economy, Mr. Papadopoulos stated that the pandemic has led to the brink of destruction of important sectors while unemployment continues to plague Cypriot society”, emphasizing that Cyprus deserves a better fate”.

He added that at DIKO “we believe more than ever in the prospects of the Cypriot economy and a new model of development, with an emphasis on innovation, incentives for start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises, tax reforms, the introduction of a minimum wage, the development of higher education. »

The President of DIKO assured that DIKO will continue to fight for the welfare state, for the radical reform of the pension system in order to ensure decent pensions for all, for the fight against entanglement and corruption, for the proper management of the immigration problem and for the liberation and reunification of our homeland, the preservation of the Republic of Cyprus, security and peace.

It is in this context that the Political Declaration sets the next steps of DIKO in view of the 2023 Presidential Elections.

Mr. Papadopoulos, in his speech, mentioned the following, among others:

“We are an opposition party. And we want change. “ (…) ” We are ready to turn to other political forces that agree with us, in order to achieve common components that will form a common proposal of power – a common governance program.

The first word in this effort must be given to the opposition parties.

We are ready to compromise, but not to abandon positions of principle. There is no way we can compromise on positions of principles concerning the Cyprus issue. “I promise you that as long as I am the president of this honored party, I am not going to annul Spyros Kyprianou and Tassos Papadopoulos.”

The president of DIKO also expressed determination regarding the claim of the Presidents of 2023, through constructive collaborations.

The Political Conference of DIKO was greeted by the President of S&D, Irache Garcia, who mentioned, among other things:
