The National Betting Authority announced the financial results of the fourth quarter of 2021
The sector continues to record an upward trend reaching pre-pandemic levels, according to financial results announced by the National Betting Authority for the fourth quarter of 2021.
In particular, the gross betting revenues of Class A (ground betting) and Class B (online betting) increased by 5% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2019 (€ 215,545,609) and increased by 16% compared to the fourth quarter of the previous year (€ 195,516,156), with revenues amounting to € 226,312,676.
Of the total income of the recipients, € 70,354,006 relate to the recipients of Class A, while € 155,958,670 relate to the recipients of Class B. The gross income of the recipients of Class A increased by 16% compared to the fourth quarter. of 2020 and a decrease of 19% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2019. In terms of gross income of Class B recipients, in the fourth quarter of 2021, they recorded an increase of 15%, compared to the corresponding quarter of 2020, while they showed an increase of 21%, compared to the corresponding period of 2019.
The profits of the Class A and B players also followed an upward course, which amounted to & nbsp; to € 198,473,099, recording an increase of 19% compared to the corresponding period in 2020. It is worth noting that the largest share of profits and specifically € 142,268,366 this quarter also concerned Class B players./p>
In terms of Class A and B betting salaries, they amounted to € 27,839,577, recording a total decrease of 2%, compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year (€ 28,444,192). More broadly, Class A bet earnings amounted to € 14,149,272 marking an increase of 5% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2020, while Class B betting earnings amounted to € 13,690,304, a percentage 8% lower compared to the corresponding period of 2020.
The total number of Class A premises did not change during the quarter in question, compared to the same quarter of the previous year. In particular, the licensed premises reached 487 nationwide. Nicosia had the lead this quarter with 168 premises, followed by Limassol with 148 premises, Larnaca with 85 premises, Paphos with 51 premises and finally Famagusta, with 35 premises.
In all, In terms of cancellations or withdrawals of licenses, a significant decrease of 90% was recorded, compared to the corresponding quarter of 2020. In addition, the employees in the licensed premises reached 1336, recording an increase of 9%, compared to the corresponding period of 2020 .
The number of blocked websites increased by 2% compared to the third quarter of 2021, with 335 illegal websites being added to the relevant list. It is noted that the list of betting service websites that did not obtain a Class B license, while with its establishment in 2015 numbered only 548 websites, today consists of 15,657 websites.
As the President pointed out in her statements of the Authority, Ms. Ioanna Fiakkou, “the financial results of the fourth quarter of 2021 reflect the growth prospects of the betting sector, which has managed to recover quite rapidly from the impact of the pandemic and restrictive measures. The goal of the National Betting Authority is the further development of the sector, through the strengthening of supervision and the introduction of innovative tools and technologies, always with the protection of players, vulnerable teams and the wider society as a whole. “
