Erhiurman's proposal to set a timetable in the context of UN resolutions
Ersin Tatar responded to the criticism he received from the president of the Republican Turkish Party (RTK) Tufan Erhiurman for his handling of the Cyprus issue with a statement of the “presidency”.
The “presidency” invites Mr. Erhiurman “to evaluate the developments in the Cypruswith realism and objectivity, taking into account its historical course”. He says that the proposal for a two-state solution, put forward by Mr. Tatar and supported by Turkey, came after the Annan Plan and the Crans Montana.
Responding to criticism of inaction, the “presidency” says that diplomacy has not stopped, on the contrary, the position of the Turkish side on a two-state solution is an important factor in diplomatic contacts.
Regarding the Erhiurman proposalto set a timetable within the framework of UN resolutions, the “presidency” claims that the U/K side is responsible for the collapse of all negotiations, while the UN ignores the rights of the U/K.
” The Greek Cypriot side rejected all these (solution) proposals, while the United Nations, sticking to its decision 60 years ago, continues to ignore the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people and encourage the Greek Cypriot side to maintain its intransigent stance. Therefore, it makes no sense to repeat what has already been tried”, he says.
According to the Turkish leadership, Mr. Erhiurman must answer a series of questions, such as, “why the Greek Cypriot side did not declares publicly that it accepts the sovereign equality of the Turkish Cypriots, the state established by the Turkish Cypriot people with free will, should have and will have equal international status with their own state”.
Finally, he states that the objective is to reach an agreement in Cyprus, “which will set an example for the region and will contribute to the development of Greek-Turkish relations, based on the cooperation of two sovereign states”.
