The Plenary of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), in Strasbourg, will be addressed by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, on Tuesday, January 23.
< p>President Christodoulidis, who will leave tomorrow afternoon for Strasbourg, will also have contacts with officials of the Council of Europe, on the sidelines of his visit.
Specifically, on the morning of January 23, the President of the Republic will sit down at a working breakfast with the Cypriots parliamentarians participating in the KSSE, while then he will go to the building of the CoE, where he will sign the guest book.
He will have private meetings, after the election procedures for the selection of the new leadership of the Assembly take place, with the outgoing and the new President of the KSSE, as well as with the General Secretary of the CoE and with the new General Secretary of the KSSE.< /p>
Next, the President of the Republic will sit down to a meal hosted in his honor by the newly elected President of the KSSE.
Then, (at 3.30pm Cyprus), President Christodoulidis will address the Plenary Session of the KSSE and will be followed by questions from MPs representing the party groups.
In his speech, the President of the Republic will mention, among other things, the current phase of the Cyprus issue and the new effort that begins after the appointment of the UN Secretary-General's Envoy, as well as the role played by the international factor in the efforts to resolve it, such as also in regional developments and in the important role of the Council of Europe in the defense of human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
Later, the President of the Republic will go to the ECtHR building, where he will has a meeting with the President of the Court Ms Síofra O’Leary.
In the evening, the President of the Republic will attend a reception given in his honor by the Permanent Representation of the Republic in Strasbourg.
President Christodoulidis, who will be accompanied by the Government Representative Mr. Konstantinos Letympiotis, the Deputy Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President Mr. Doros Venezis and officials, will return to Cyprus on January 24.
