The contract for the provision of Design Consulting services for the project “Renovation of the Old GSP Area” in Nicosia was signed between the Municipality of Nicosia and the Design Consultants and thus the preparation of the implementation study and the tender documents for the construction contract of the project begins.
According to an announcement, the tender for the construction contract is estimated to be announced by the end of 2019.
The international Architectural Competition for the project was announced by the Department of Urban Planning and Housing in May 2011, taking into account the Referendum held by the Municipality of Nicosia for the possible uses of the space that took place in 2009.
In October 2017, following a decision of the Council of Ministers, the site of the old GSP was granted to the Municipality and in November 2018, after the completion of the necessary procedures, the Tender Council approved the Contract for the Provision of Consulting Services with the winning team. the first prize of the architectural competition “Ioannis Kizis, Grigorios Patsalosavvis, Konstantinos Kizis & Efthymios Dougas”.
The project includes a large urban park with extensive green space and outdoor amphitheater, square and recreation areas at street level, connecting and highlighting at the same time the THOK building with the area of the old GSP.
Also, two underground levels are created with parking spaces, a total of 650 places, with easy access for comfortable traffic and connection with public transport and the Nicosia minibus network.
