The President of the House of Representatives Annita Dimitriou received on Friday the President of the Academy of Athens Professor Emeritus of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Michael-Konstantinos Stathopoulos.
An announcement from the House states that the President of the Academy of Athens, accompanied by Professor Loukas G. Christoforou, President of the Energy Committee of the Academy of Athens, is visiting, as part of his participation in the conference “EU Energy Self-Reliance and RES Possibilities” which is organized in Cyprus.
Welcoming Mr. Stathopoulos, Mrs. Dimitriou expressed her confidence in the catalytic role that he can play under his known authority in dealing with complex contemporary challenges, such as the issue of the European Union's energy self-sufficiency.
The President of the Academy of Athens, for his part, expressed his excitement for his presence in Cyprus and referred to imminent signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Academy of Athens and the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, as framework agreement for the purpose of exchanging know-how, which will be followed by other individual agreements.
Mr. Stathopoulos also referred to the very close relations he maintains with Cyprus, while afterwards there was an exchange of views on the Cyprus problem and the difficulties in solving it, as in modern global challenges, such as the war in Ukraine, developments that demonstrate that democratic principles and values should not be taken for granted today.
Expressing her satisfaction with the cooperation of the institutions of the two countries, the President of the Parliament accepted an invitation addressed to her by Mr. Stathopoulos to visit the Academy of Athens.
The meeting was also attended by the President of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts Andreas Dimitriou and its members Sotiris Kalogirou and Achilleas Emilianidis.
