The rationale for Fidan's participation in the informal council of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – “It does not constitute a retreat” says Kobos – It is not something that is being done for the first time, notes the Foreign Minister
In light of the government's decision to consent to the participation of Turkey's foreign minister in the informal council of foreign ministers of the European Union on August 19, the foreign minister reportedKonstantinos Kombos.
Speaking on State Radio, Mr. Kombos stated that Turkey's participation in the informal council is not something that is being done for the first time and does not recommend retreat of the Greek Cypriot side.
He pointed out that there are the conclusions of the European Council which determine the procedure and the next steps in the Euro-Turkish and in this context Turkey's participation was accepted.
In order to give a positive response from the government, added Mr. Kombos, the efforts made to resume the talks were also taken into account, noting that during the informal council he will make a report on the Cyprus issue.
Commenting on the reactions expressed by the co-governing parties, Mr. Kombos stated that they are respected, pointing out that differences in relation to the Cyprus issue also existed before the presidential elections.
