Thirty-four (34) years since the last time Agia Zoni was found in Cyprus, the Theotokos relic will be for worship and blessing of the faithful from February 5 to March 1 in Limassol, Paphos, the Holy Metropolises of Trimythoundos and Tamasos, as well as in other areas. The Sacred Belt will be presented by the Panosiology Professor of the Holy Great Monastery of Vatopedi, Archimandrite Ephraim.
Agia Zoni will arrive in Megalonis from Mount Athos, at the old airport of Larnaca, on Monday, February 5, 2024, and will be welcomed with the honors of a head of state. At 12 noon, the official reception of Agia Zoni will take place in Paralimni, temporary seat of the Diocese of Constantia and Famagusta. The reception point will be the area in front of the old SPE of Paralimni. Then, with a procession, it will be transferred to the Metropolitan Church of Agios Georgios Paralimni, where it will remain for worship until Sunday, February 11.
The arrival of the Holy Belt of the Theotokos in the semi-occupied Diocese of Constantia also marks the beginning of the actions carried out this year by the Diocese of Constantia and Famagusta, in the context of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion. “Reposing all our hope in the Virgin Mary and Mother of God and asking the Theotokos to preserve us under her protection, we turn our gaze towards the occupied Famagusta. We look at our city, which was adorned with important temples (medieval and newer) dedicated to Agia Zoni, testimony of her honor in Cyprus since ancient times. The church of Agia Zoni within the city of Varosia from 1974 until today remains inaccessible, abandoned, stripped of its relics, idle. Support and unshakable wall of our salvation is the Most Holy Theotokos, whose intercession we all ask for, worshiping her Holy Belt”, says the announcement of the Holy Metropolis of Constantia and Famagusta.
In summary, the Theotokos Relic will be in the Metropolitan Church of Agios Georgios Paralimni from 5 to 11 February 2024, in the Metropolitan Church of Panagia Pantanassi Katholiki Limassol from 11 to 18 February, in the Holy Church of Agioi Anargyro Kato Paphos from 18 to 21 February, at the Metropolitan Church of Panagia Evangelistria Idalio from February 21 to 23, at the Holy Church of Agia Thekla of Agioi Anargyro II, Larnaca from February 28 to March 1.
