The recruitment process in the State is changing: Short lists with fewer candidates

The provisions of the amending law will be applied for the first time for the positions that will be announced from 1/1/2022 onwards so as not to affect the procedures for filling vacancies that are in progress. Based on the retirement due to age limit and the forecasts for early retirement, it is estimated that in 2022 about 1,000 positions will be advertised in the public and wider public sector.

In the current situation, the number of candidates that the EDY and the other appointing bodies are required to call for the oral examination must be three times the vacancies. From 1/1/2022 the following will apply:

  • If the number of vacancies is up to three, the number of candidates invited to the oral examination will be three times the vacancies.
  • If the number of vacancies is from four to 20, the number of candidates to be invited to the oral examination shall be limited to twice the number of vacancies, with a minimum of 10 candidates in the event of four vacancies.
  • If the number of vacancies is from 21 to 50, the number of candidates to be invited to the oral examination is limited to the product resulting from multiplying the number of vacancies by 1.5. In no case should the candidates be less than 40.
  • If the number of vacancies is from 51 and above, then the number of candidates to be invited to the oral examination is limited to the product resulting from the multiplication of the number of vacancies by 1.25. Candidates must in no case be less than 75.
