The day after the election, for the first time, of a woman in the presidency of the parliament, marks the beginning of the political negotiations that President Anastasiadis intends to have with the leaders of the parliamentary parties, with the aim of implementing his proclamation for a government of wide acceptance.
The PD had given the stigma of its intentions to refresh the government, immediately after the final result of the recent parliamentary elections.
On the evening of May 30, Mr. Anastasiadis had stated that he would call on the party leaders to jointly seek, in a climate of consensus, the roadmap for the future of the country.
Last Sunday, the PD was more specific in his statements to Politis, as he stressed that after the election of the new Speaker of Parliament, he will take the initiative to form an ecumenical government, in order to promote and implement the reforms.
Despite the fact that AKEL and DIKO have publicly opposed their participation in an ecumenical government under N. Anastasiadis, however, the president will ask for and will have contacts with the two major opposition parties.
Close aides to the president told StockWatch that the president, hoping to engage in dialogue with all political leaders, would be able to build bridges of consensus to implement reforms.
Reforms are key to disbursing the € 1.2 billion from the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan.
The latest information that has leaked from the presidency, shows the PD, to proceed with a final refresh of his cabinet, long before the expiration of the summer.
The president has in his office the desire of the Minister of Health Konstantinos Ioannou to leave the government, after 40 months of office, which were marked by the implementation of the GESS and the management of the unprecedented pandemic crisis, which continues to plague the whole planet.
The information suggests that Mr. Ioannou proposes as the main reason for his departure from the government, the great fatigue he has suffered, especially in the last 16 months he has taken over as Minister of Health, the difficult management of the pandemic crisis and the vaccination program.
In the staff of the Ministry of Health, Ad. Adamou
The successor of Mr. Ioannou to take over the portfolio of the Ministry of Health, is said to be Adamos Adamou, former Speaker of Parliament and former MP of AKEL.
Mr. Adamou, who had a formal meeting with President Anastasiadis yesterday, leaving the presidency and when asked about it, stated that he was not offered by the PD to take over the ministry of health.
However, his report that he will remain in politics and that “everyone sees after what he does and where and how he participates” leaves an open window, if proposed, to take over the ministry of health.
At the presidency, associates of Mr. Anastasiadis told StockWatch that Mr. Adamos's name is on the president's mind to assign him the portfolio of the Ministry of Health.
Besides, in 2016, Mr. Anastasiadis had mediated for DISY to support the election of Mr. Adamos to the presidency of the Parliament, something that AKEL did not accept.
Yesterday, a similar initiative took place in the background, this time by the president of DIPA, Mario Karoyan, who had proposed to DISY and AKEL, support for the candidacy of Andros Kyprianou for speaker of parliament, provided that in the 2023 presidential elections he is elected from AKEL, the presidency of the House to be assigned to Averof Neophytou.

In the list of PTD in relation to a possible reshuffle is the name of Angelos Votsis, who although he stated that he would not be interested in his participation in the cabinet, however, the president will officially approach him and will propose him to the Ministry of Social Welfare.
In the presidency, it is implied that anyway, Angelos Votsis was in the president's intentions to take over one of the two new state ministries, before the parliamentary elections.
More women and new blood in the cabinet
People close to President Anastasiadis and the president of DISY have been leaking in recent days that the PD, in the context of the impending reshuffle, would prefer to adorn the cabinet with personalities of known value, rather than with active party officials.
In addition, he would like to increase the number of women in the ministry, while in his contacts with the leaders of the parliamentary parties, he will ask to be nominated for new persons with a more technocratic rather than partisan tone.
This intention of the PD was confirmed last night, when you were asked to comment on the election of An. Dimitriou and whether he will promote women in the context of the upcoming reshuffle, Mr. Anastasiadis answered meaningfully:
“(Annita's) message is to me as well.”
He also noted that the election of Mrs. Dimitriou proved that women can, deserve and should claim similar positions.
K. Petridis “clarifies” the landscape
Finance Minister Konstantinos Petridis, who was invited to state television yesterday at noon, revealed that he had spoken to the PD regarding his announcement to form an ecumenical government, without going into details.
Asked if he was tired of his eight-year term as a member of the government, first as deputy minister, then as interior minister and now as finance minister, Petridis replied:
“If I felt tired I would make the decision to leave, no matter what the president would tell me.”
The information leaked from the presidency states that the PD had a long meeting recently with the Ministry of Finance, which invited him to remain in the ministry, mainly to manage the implementation of the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan.
Reports led Mr. Petridis to leave the government and claim the city hall of Nicosia.
He himself denied such a prospect.
