Flying and floating rescue vehicles take part in the operation
Investigations under the coordination of the Search and Rescue Coordination Center (KSED) are underway in the sea area between Cabo Greco and Ayia Napa, with the aim of locating a migrant who reportedly fell into the sea to swim ashore.
The incident occurred when the three boats with the irregular migrants reached 2 nautical miles from the coast.
One of the three boats had an engine problem, causing it to stop. According to testimonies of other migrants, the missing migrant dived into the sea and has been missing ever since.
Aeronautical and floating rescue vehicles are taking part in the operation.
Aerial rescue vehicles have stopped due to darkness the flights, while the watercraft continue the searches in the area.
Foot patrols were carried out on the coast by members of the Famagusta Police Department without locating anything.
Investigations will continue during the night. Tomorrow morning the situation will be reassessed depending on the information obtained from the statements of the rescued irregular immigrants.
The Port and Maritime Police, the Famagusta Police Department, are participating in the operation, which is coordinated by the KSED. the Navy, the Air Force with helicopters and drones and the Police Air Operations Unit.
