An inspection was made of the systems and means of service that the Municipality has already implemented on its beaches
The Mayor of Paralimni – Deryneia Giorgos Nicolettos discussed ways to improve the service of people with mobility disabilities with the President of the Paraplegic Organization Cyprus Dimitris Lambrianidis, during a meeting they had on Friday, in the presence of Municipal Secretary Gabriela Gavriel and Beach Inspector George Oikonomou.
In a statement from the Municipality, it is stated that “at the meeting, ways to further improve the service of people with severe mobility disabilities were examined. There was also an inspection of the systems and means of service that the Municipality of Paralimni has already implemented on its beaches – ; Deryneia, such as the special Seatrac systems”.
The specific systems were installed and operate on eleven beaches of the Municipality through the Interreg V-A program “Greece – Cyprus 2014-2020 “Mercury 2” – “Barrier Free Tourism for All” the amphibious wheelchairs (Floating Wheelchairs) as well as special sunbeds and umbrellas available only for people with severe mobility disabilities, people in wheelchairs and blind people.
The Municipality of Paralimni – Deryneias “recognizing the obstaclesthat deal with people with severe mobility disabilities who cannot walk or navigate the sand with a wheelchair, as part of its responsibility towards citizens with disabilities, it took care and installed wooden floors on which there are sunbeds and umbrellas and allow easy and safe access to these fellow citizens of ours”, it states.
According to the announcement “Seatracs and amphibious wheelchairs are available at the beaches of Protaras/Fig Tree Bay (Floating Wheelchair), Louma/Golden Coast (Seatrac, Floating Wheelchair), Faucet A΄ (Floating Wheelchair), Faucet B΄ (Floating Wheelchair) , Vrysi III/Gianna Mari (Seatrac and Floating Wheelchair, Agia Triada (Seatrac. Floating Wheelchair), Byzakia/Cavo Maris (Seatrac, Floating Wheelchair), Kappari (Floating Wheelchair) and Byzakia (Seatrac, Floating Wheelchair)”.
It is clarified that the Interreg V-A program “Greece – Cyprus 2014-2020 “Mercury 2” – “Barrier Free Tourism for All” was implemented with the main beneficiary being the Cyprus Paraplegics Organization and the beneficiaries being the Municipality of Paralimni and the Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis and concerned the installation of special accessibility infrastructure on the beaches of the Municipality of Paralimni (Municipality of Paralimni – Deryneia) and the Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis.
It is also noted that “in 2022 in the institution of the annual awards organized by DIAS publishing house and CheckInCyprus, Paralimni Municipality (Paralimni Municipality – Deryneia) received an honorary award for the Best Accessible Beach for People with Mobility Impairments for Vrysi C’ Beach.
The Municipality of Paralimni – Deryneias “as a local authority that invested in the development and creation of infrastructure and accessibility for people with severe mobility disabilities on its beaches, adopts the design for all philosophy and is committed to continuously upgrade its infrastructure with the aim of the best possible inclusion and equal service of people with disabilities to the extent possible,” the announcement states.
