The meeting of the sheep and goat breeders and President Anastasiadis at the Presidential Palace has been scheduled for June 16 on the issue of the opinion of the Legal Service for the preparation of halloumi of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). After the meeting with the cheesemakers and what was agreed in order to start the production of PDO halloumi, next Thursday the President and the competent Ministers will meet with the sheep and goat farmers. The aim of the meeting is to ensure the viability of sheep and goat farmers, given the disadvantage they are in today. & Nbsp;
The most important points are the commitment of the cheesemakers for the utilization of the entire milk production, as well as the agreement reached in order to give increases to the sheep and goat farmers by the cheesemakers. It is noted that the cheesemakers agreed to join the mechanism of control and certification of the production of PDO halloumi. In order for a dairy to produce PDO halloumi, it must be included in the certification and control system of the international organization Bureau Veritas. To date, the cheese has included 32 dairies that produce about 8% of total halloumi production and about 1,000 of the 1,500 professional breeders. This ensures that it is very difficult to cancel the PDO hall. & Nbsp;
Pursuant to Article 54 of the relevant regulation, a PDO product can be canceled at the initiative of the Commission or at the request of a natural or legal person. of a person who has a legal interest, only in two cases: & nbsp;
& gt; & gt; When compliance with the terms of the specification is not ensured.
& gt; & gt; Where, for at least seven years, no product has been marketed with the indication of the traditional specialty guaranteed or the protected designation of origin or the protected geographical indication.
These two cases are now fully satisfied once after October 1, 2021, after the assurances of the Bureau Veritas, PDO halloumi is prepared from even a small number of dairies and the conditions of the dossier are fully met. & nbsp;
