An interstate agreement with Bahrain in the field of air transport was signed by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Yiannis Karousos, with his counterpart  Mohammed Thamer Alkaabi, in Manama, Bahrain, as part of the Ministry's efforts to improve the air connectivity of Cyprus.

According to a statement issued by the GTC, the agreement provides for further liberalization of flights between the two countries by providing third, fourth and fifth freedom between scheduled flights for the transport of passengers and cargo , without limitation of airlines and frequencies.

“Our efforts to strengthen and improve air connectivity are continuous at all levels, with initiatives we have taken at European level, such as the Declaration on Air Connectivity, the proposals we have put forward to reduce the impacts that will be brought about by the legislative package Fit for 55 of the EU in air transport as well as the incentives to airlines”, said Mr. Karousos.

He added that this is a very important agreement that seeks to improve air connectivity between two countries, offering the opportunity to increase the number of travelers between Cyprus and Bahrain, both for leisure and business purposes.

“This will help improve connectivity more broadly with Arab countries as well with Europe. With this Agreement, Bahrain's airlines will be able to fly to all EU member states with an intermediate station in Cyprus”, noted the Minister.
