A meeting with representatives of the Charitable Foundation for Children with Cancer and Leukemia “ELPIDA”, was held on Wednesday by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Annita Dimitriou.
According to an announcement of the Parliament, first expressing the gratitude and appreciation of the state for the invaluable contribution of the institution, the Speaker of the Parliament was informed about a series of problems that hinder its smooth operation and social contribution, while the President of the Foundation submitted specific improvements to be discussed, including the promotion of social and legislative measures to support sufferers and their families, both in Cyprus and during their stay abroad for therapeutic purposes, such as financial support and the provision of services social worker, psychologist and translator.
He also analyzed the right to oblivion of the “winners” of childhood cancer, so that after the end of their recovery they will again have equal treatment in all areas of life.
In this regard, the Speaker of Parliament, expressing the readiness of the House of Representatives to assist in any appropriate way in resolving the chronic problems of the institution, undertook to inform in writing the competent Minister of Labor, Welfare and Social Security and to take action against all direction of resolving the key issues raised before it, personally following the process of resolving them.
