The unfair accusations made against our boss, reflect on all of us, emphasize the employees of the Audit Service

The unfair accusations leveled at our boss, who has in various ways promoted radical cuts that have strengthened professionalism, collaboration, transparency and collegiality in the way our Service operates, a fact that is universally acknowledged, reflect on all of us, says the staff of the Auditing Service, who in his statement requests to be allowed to work unhindered, without restrictions.

The entire statement of the staff of the Auditing Service

In relation to the events of the last few days, which concern the institution of the Auditor General and with full respect and confidence in the ongoing process before the Supreme Judicial Council, we state the following:

  • Our Service, based on its constitutional role, is called upon, by applying its institutional framework, the international professional standards and practices that govern the work of a Supreme Audit Institution, to contribute to the accountability, transparency and accountability of those exercising public authority in the management of public resources.
  • As staff of the Service, we feel proud of the institution we serve, with ethics, professionalism and dedication to the public interest, as well as the recognition we receive over time, through the positive vote of civil society.

  • A necessary condition to be able to carry out our work is to be able to act independently, which is why the professional standards and declarations of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) include very detailed and strict declarations to protect the auditor's independence, the which were also adopted by relevant resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly. Therefore, any actions affecting our objective judgement, our unhindered access to information and limiting the scope of our control, are against the above principles.
  • Duty requires us to conduct our work with ethics and professionalism and to communicate our findings in a timely manner, making every effort to disseminate them to society, so that citizens receive objective and independent information, in relation to the management of public resources.
  • The developments of the last few days, which call into question our mode of operation, as we explain above, have inevitably made us particularly sad, since we believe that we honor the institution we serve and our Service acts exemplary in its sphere public.
  • We consider that the unfair accusations leveled against our boss, who in various ways has promoted radical cuts that have strengthened professionalism, cooperation, transparency and collegiality in the way our Service operates, a fact which is universally recognized, reflect on all of us.
  • Our Service should be allowed to continue to carry out its mission and mandate unhindered.
