The road for the transportation of children aged three to six years by bus was opened today by the Council of Ministers with the approval of a plan grant to bus operators for the purchase of child seats and restraint systems.

In his statements after the session of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Transport and Works Yannis Karousos said that the body approved the proposal of his Ministry to create and promote a sponsorship plan for the purchase of child seats and restraint systems for children aged 3-6 years for the moving them by buses.

As is well known, he said, after the passage of the Parliament's Law proposal, children aged 3-6 years old were essentially excluded from traveling on buses, because the use of a child seat or a restraint system is mandatory.

He added that in order to solve this problem, after a discussion with the Road Safety Council, with a budget of 150 thousand euros, a sponsorship plan was created so that bus owners can be subsidized for the purchase of these systems and enable children of this age to travel on buses.

“The project has a budget of 150 thousand euros in total, 50 thousand will be allocated for children's seats, which are applied to buses with seats that have safety belts three-point, and 100 thousand for child restraint systems, which are applied to buses with two-point seat belts. For children's seats the sponsorship will be 35 euros and for restraint systems the sponsorship will be 75 euros”, he said and noted that all the details of the plan will be announced next week by the Department of Road Transport.
