Boris Johnson's cabinet ministers are drawing up plans to cut thousands of public sector jobs as part of a review of public spending over the next three years, according to The Times.
The finance ministry has instructed all ministries to indicate where cuts could be made in the run-up to the public spending review in the autumn, the report said. The newspaper cites unnamed sources.
According to the Times, the Ministries were told that they should reverse the increase in their staff due to Brexit and the new coronavirus pandemic. Public sector unions have said the cuts will be made mainly through the non-recruitment of new employees when employees retire, according to the Times.
