The general councils of the trade unions at the Cyprus Electricity Authority, EPOPAI, SIDIKEK, SEPAIK and SYVAIK meet next Monday for information and decision-making, speaking of “invisible hands” that seem to be preventing the implementation of the decisions that have been taken on the matters concerning the EAC.

In their joint announcement, the unions recall the meetings they had with the EAC Board of Directors and with the Ministers of Energy and Labor, “during which it was established that there is a universality in the views on the issues of our Organization and Energy, which touch the limits of consensus, as to what should happen for its sustainability and future”.

The issues that concern the guilds concern the effective staffing and smooth operation of the Organization, the upgrading/modernization of the Dekelia power plant, RES in the production and supply of the EAC, the inspection of the Electrical Installations and Energy storage.

“Despite all the good mood and the spirit of consensus that prevails, and even though serious decisions have been taken, they still remain on paper, because it seems that some invisible hands are preventing their implementation, while at the same time competent bodies move in a jerky way, creating a fake situation which certainly leads to and maintains the high cost of energy and at the same time puts the security of supply and the adequacy of production at serious risk, with consequences for both the consumer and the local economy”, state the guilds.

They note that respecting the Christmas and New Year holidays, they limited themselves “to giving special importance and time to the dialogue, without unfortunately any substantial result”.

“In view of the above, on Monday January 22, 2024 the General Councils of our organizations meet at the Central Offices of the Authority in Nicosia for information and decision-making”, conclude the trade unions in the EAC.
