The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its support for Ersin Tatar's letter to the UN Secretary General “for cooperation on the basis of sovereign equality and equal international status with the EU side”.

In its announcement last night, after the Turkish leader's statements on the proposals for cooperation in 4 sectors, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains that the implementation of these proposals will contribute to peace and stability in the eastern Mediterranean.

“At the same time, it will allow the creation of cooperation between the two states on the island and will contribute decisively to the formation of common ground for the solution of the Cyprus problem”, says the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

Support for the proposals Tatar expressed in writing today and the “prime minister”, Unal Ustel, saying that they are waiting for a positive response from the government side, but also from all interested parties.

“We believe that the proposals of cooperation in 4 sectors – which our mother country, the Republic of Turkey strongly supports – which show the will to cooperate with our foreign counterparts on the basis of equality, will contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in our island and region”.

Mr. Tatar's proposals are mentioned in only two front pages of today's Turkish newspapers, in Vatan and Cyprus. Vatan has as its main topic the statements made by the Turkish leader about their content, while Cyprus has a report on the front page underlining that these are proposals for cooperation between “two states”.
