Orders to exclude them from sports venues were issued by the Court
In an immediate registration for trial of a case concerning the legislation on violence in sports venues, the Police proceeded today, after the arrest of two persons aged 19 , for possessing and throwing firecrackers, during the football match between OMONIA and AEL, at the GSP stadium, in Nicosia.
The two 19-year-olds, at the start of the match, were spotted in the stands of the GSP stadium, wearing hoods and throwing firecrackers. The two were called to the Police office at the stadium. In their possession, after a search, nine more firecrackers were found. They were arrested for obvious offenses and taken into custody.
The case was registered on Wednesday morning for immediate trial by the Nicosia District Court, before which the two 19-year-old defendants appeared. They pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them before the Court, relating to the possession, transportation, and throwing of firecrackers, as well as concealing a person.
The Court set March 26 as the next date of hearing and sentencing, while at the request of the Police, it issued temporary exclusion orders from the sports grounds, against the two 19-year-olds, with effect until March 26.
The two 19-year-olds were released with conditions imposed by the Court, in order to ensure their presence at the next hearing.
The case had been investigated by the Strovolos Police Station.
