The payment of the December salary of government officials, state employees and hourly government personnel within the first fortnight of the month is recommended by the Pancypriot Federation of Independent Trade Unions, stating in its announcement that previous implementation of of this practice, had a positive impact on the market.
In the announcement of the Federation it is noted that if salaries and pensions were paid within the first fortnight of December, instead of December 20 and 28 respectively, as was announced, then “the wage-earning world, which in essence moves the bazaar, should be able to do their shopping and Christmas shopping on time, without stress and without last-minute rushes”.
He continues, however, that something like this would also help households, while referring to an example of previous years, when the payment of salary was made individually during the first fortnight and had “positive results, both in the consumers as well as in the market”.
“We understand that in order for such a thing to be possible, planning is required to complete the process of paying salaries/pensiones, which makes the implementation of this measure difficult for this year”, adds Federation, calling on the Ministry of Finance to study this possibility for future festive periods.
