According to new statements, the United States remains committed to connecting the energy of the Eastern Mediterranean with Europe. “We remain committed to deepening regional relations and promoting clean energy technologies,” the statement said, noting that the United States continues to support projects such as the Euroafrica Interconnector (Egypt-Greece power grid) and the Euroasia (Israel-Israel power grid). – Greece). Such projects can not only connect vital energy markets but can also prepare the region for the energy transition, the statement said.

It is recalled that in January 2020 Greece, Cyprus and Israel signed a historic agreement for the construction of the East Med pipeline, which is considered a project of common interest for Europe's energy infrastructure. The pipeline aims to transport 9 to 12 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the offshore fields of the Eastern Mediterranean to Crete, mainland Greece, Italy and other Southeast European countries.

In its original form, the project is designed to have a length of 1900 km and will start from Cyprus and will be directed to Crete and then to mainland Greece, passing underwater at a depth of up to 3 km. Its capacity will be about 10 billion sq.m. with the parallel construction of interconnectors to Bulgaria (IGB), Albania (IAP) and Italy (ITGI), it will be possible to further diffuse the Mediterranean gas volumes in the Balkan hinterland and in the Italian market.

The route of the pipeline in its maritime part has been marked within the EEZ of Cyprus and the area of the potentially Greek EEZ. More specifically, the route of the pipeline includes: A submarine section 200 km long from the deposits of the eastern Mediterranean to Cyprus.
