The United States fully supports the Cyprus Initiative for regional cooperation on climate change and its implications in various areas, US Ambassador to Cyprus Judith Garber said during a meeting Thursday with the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development. and Environment, Costa Kadi. He also expressed the desire of the United States to further contribute to the promotion and implementation of the Cyprus Initiative.
According to a statement issued by the GTP, for his part, Mr. Kadis expressed his satisfaction with the decision of the new US Government to re-adopt the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. He pointed out that the problem of Climate Change is global and as such requires international cooperation, declaring the readiness of Cyprus to cooperate with the United States in this direction. Mr. Kadis also briefed the Ambassador on the latest developments regarding the Initiative taken by Cyprus to coordinate the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East in dealing with climate change.
The meeting also discussed the further strengthening of Cyprus-US bilateral relations, especially in terms of promoting and utilizing new technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as to adapt to the effects of climate change. To this end, it was agreed that the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment prepare relevant proposals for further cooperation.
The two officials agreed to maintain their communication, in order to examine the conditions and the ways of implementation of the suggestions that will be prepared by the Ministry.
