An important weapon for the timely prediction and prevention of COVID-19, as well as other complex and multifactorial diseases, is the use of Digital Twins and Artificial Intelligence in the field of health. This is revealed by the Cypriot scientist Andreiani Odysseos, Director of Biomedical Research, who participates in the leading team of the DIGIPREDICT program, whose implementation began on January 1, 2021.
According to an announcement, the main goal of the program is the development of a multidisciplinary scientific community, which will evolve into a dynamic European ecosystem around this emerging technology.
According to Dr. Odysseus, this program is one of the three that have been funded through a highly competitive process and aims to detect and predict the progression of COVID-19 and other infectious and cardiovascular diseases.
In fact, in the case of high-risk patients, with COVID-19, they will be able to be identified in time by digital fingerprints of the complex progression of the disease and to be closely monitored, in order to enable the immediate intervention with the most appropriate treatment regimen for each individual, something that will also assist in the difficult work of doctors and nurses, emphasizes Dr. Odysseos.
