While government doctors are on strike and patients are suffering, it seems that the rift between OKYPY and doctors is deepening, with unpredictable consequences.
In statements to RIK radio, OKYPY spokesman Charalambos Charilaou said that doctors' salaries, since the organization's operation, have doubled or tripled.
Furthermore, as he said, the doctors' representatives, in meetings, warned the leadership of the Organization that “they have not seen anything yet”, noting that longer strikes will follow.
For his part, the President of PASYKI, Sotiris Koumas, in his statements to RIK, questioned whether there were political reasons behind the rejection of the mediation proposal of the President of the Health Committee, Efthimios Diplaros, which had been accepted in principle by both PASYKI and the President of the Board of Directors of OKYPY.
In addition, the President of PASYKI did not rule out the possibility of escalating the strike measures, which may take the form of indefinite strike or faithful implementation of the contractual terms for on-calls.
On the other hand, speaking on the state channel, the General Director of the Ministry of Health, Christina Giannaki, stated that the TAEP of the hospitals will operate with security personnel, while they will be ready to receive patients with serious incidents.Â
In addition, as she said, a special plan has been drawn up for the management of the strike and the referral of patients whose lives are in danger to private hospital departments.
In addition, as the Director General of the Ministry of Health emphasized, the coordination of all efforts will be carried out by the operations office at the Ministry of Health, so that there is a better coordination effort.
It is recalled that all scheduled surgeries are postponed and only emergencies originating from the Emergency Department or from complications of patients already hospitalized will be handled with security personnel (on duty). It is noted that the Pediatric Accident and Emergency Department (Children's Emergency Department) will also operate with security personnel.
In addition, chemotherapy treatments administered to inpatients will continue as normal, while inpatients will continue to receive the required medical attention from security personnel.Â
On the occasion of the strike, PASYKI issued a statement with detailed information to the public, noting that private hospitals must prepare for an increased number of pathological and surgical patients during the two days of the strike.Â
The announcement emphasizes that patients who need medical evaluation, diagnostic tests and therapeutic interventions will be transferred to TAEP private hospitals in nearby provinces by the Ambulance Service, under the responsibility and coordination of Ministry of Health.
