This year's July was the warmest July in the climatic history of Cyprus, with the only exception of the mountainous areas, the Department of Meteorology states in its announcement, noting that the parameter that contributed to this record was the many warm nights of the month.
According to the data, July saw a record number of nightswith daily minimum temperatures at levels higher than the yellow danger level for extremely high minimum temperatures.
According to the statistics published on Wednesday by the Department of Meteorology, at Athalassa Station a total of < strong>16 days during which there was an extreme maximum temperature warning in effect, ranking the station 3rd after 2020, when there were a total of 20 days with some warning, and 2021 and 2023, when there were a total of 18 days with a warning.
Also, Athalassa Station recorded the 2nd record for consecutive days with a warning in effect, with a total of 10 consecutive days, following 2023 which set a record total of 16 consecutive days with warnings in effect.
However, in terms of daily minimum temperatures, July 2024 ranks 1st,with a total of 13 nights in which there was an extreme minimum high temperature warning in place, followed by 1988 and 2000 with 10 nights and 2009 with 9 nights with a warning in effect.
In in terms of consecutive number of consecutive nights with some extreme minimum high temperature warning in effect, 2009 ranks 1st with 9 consecutive nights, while July 2024 ranks 4th with 4 consecutive nights.
Regarding the reference station at Larnaca airport, according to the Department of Meteorology, in July 2024 there were recorded 14 nights with a warning in force for the minimum temperatures, while July 2023 follows with 10 such nights. In addition, 4 consecutive nights with a warning in effect were recorded, which ranks July 2024 in 2nd place, after July 2023 (5 consecutive nights with a warning). p>
Finally, regarding the reference station at Paphos Airport, the Meteorological Department reports that this year's July records a first in terms of the total number of nights with a warning in effect, with 14 nights, while 6 consecutive nights with warning were recorded, compared to July 2023 and 2021, when 7 nights with warning were recorded, with the number this year to record twice as many, and with 4 and 2 consecutive nights with a warning, respectively.
