The Directorates of Secondary Education are proceeding with a series of reforms in the next period of time, as announced by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (YPAN), based on the experience of conducting the four-month exams in high schools and high schools. As stated in the announcement of the Ministry, the actions of the Directorates of Secondary Education will focus, among other things, on the evaluation and possible readjustment of the Analytical Program and on the preparation of a “subject bank”.

“In this way and given the competence of the Ministry and the Directorates to determine the learning frameworks, in accordance with the intended goals in education, the opportunistic discussions that take place about what is taught every year in schools will also end”, states the announcement. “At the same time, the beneficial effect of the educational reform will be utilized in terms of defining a uniform process and a given pace of teaching in all schools and departments, based on the intended educational goals,” he adds.

It is also noted that the intention of the Ministry is to submit again to the Parliament a proposal to limit the subjects examined in high school to two instead of four. The same proposal also includes the explicit regulation of the remaining part of the evaluation (60%) in order, taking into account the established written evaluation, to avoid any abuse of written exercises (“competitions”) in the context of the evaluation, which is intended to be oral.

The evaluation of the implementation of the current Analytical Program of Junior High Schools, High Schools and TESEK, will be done by a special scientific coordinating committee. The purpose will be to consider the possible revision, taking into account “any general issues and the matching with the available teaching time, the systematic adaptation to the data of digital technology and in particular the imminent delivery of digital classrooms”, the Ministry points out.

He also notes that the Analytical Program Committee will work in conjunction and cooperation with the established New Curriculum Committee, in order to finalize the teaching content in relation to the predicted proficiency/success indicators, the operation of skills workshops in high schools and the student evaluation process.

The Ministry of the Interior also announces the preparation of a “subject bank” which can be used for the regular evaluations, evaluation of the new evaluation plan with the four-month exams, at the end of this year. “The intended subject-setting process through a subject bank will allow the thorough evaluation, verification and selection of appropriate examination papers in a timely manner, in such a way that there will be better supervision of the whole process and any undesirable incidents, such as the one that occurred on last month at school,” he explains in the statement.
