In their letter to the President of the Republic of Cyprus and competent Ministers, the Pancyprian Association of Cinema Halls together with the Municipal Theater of Nicosia, the Pattiheio Municipal Theater of Limassol, the Theatrical Development Company of Limassol, the Theater Theater, the Satirical Theater Flea Theater, Anemone Theater, Theater One and Dionysos Theater call on the State to take immediate measures of substantial support for cultural spaces.
An announcement states that cinemas and theaters have been irreparably affected by the restrictive measures taken by the state to deal with the pandemic. The cinemas have been closed for ten months, while many theaters either remain closed or have been closed for a few months, resulting in large financial losses that are not covered by the measures announced so far, as it is added.
In view of the unprecedented crisis experienced by theaters and cinemas in Cyprus, it is reported, the directors of cinemas and theaters cite in their letter a series of indicative measures taken in EU countries and emphasize the need for support measures. Failure to take supportive measures could lead to bankruptcy and consequently to the impoverishment of the cultural life of the place, of which the specific cultural sites are an integral part, the announcement concludes.
