The theologian, Theodoros Kyriakou, spoke on the show “Morning Inspection” of Politis 107.6 and 97.6 about an attempt to bypass the people from the process of electing an Archbishop. He said that a process of amending the Charter of the Church has been launched, for which, however, 3/4 of the Holy Synod is needed, ie 13 votes out of the 17 that exist. This effort does not seem to have succeeded, according to Mr. Kyriakou, and as he explained, it was made to exclude from the process the three-person, that is, the three most dominant candidates for the archbishopric throne. He estimates that the three-person in this case of the archbishopric elections, will be the Metropolitans, Limassol Athanasios, Tamasos Isaias and Morfos Neophytos.
The Archbishop himself, although behind all this he was, as he mentioned, a bishop – not a Metropolitan – who also made the contacts. Mr. Kyriakou did not want to reveal the name of the bishop. time.
