These are the 5 countries that have not had a single vaccine

The World Health Organization has announced that it is supporting the five remaining countries that have not yet launched their population vaccination campaign against Covid-19, as the planet today surpassed the threshold of three billion doses of vaccine.

Vaccinations have not yet started in Burundi, Eritrea, Haiti, North Korea and Tanzania – the only countries among the 194 WHO member states that have not launched their population immunization campaign against the new coronavirus.

“The WHO continues to support these countries in deciding whether to start vaccinations,” a spokesman told AFP.

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tentos Antanom Gebregesus, had expressed the desire for each country to start vaccinating health workers and the most vulnerable population groups within the first 100 days of 2021, a deadline that expired in April.

However, rich countries keep batches of vaccines off production lines while some countries are still waiting to give their first doses to their populations. “We are facing a two-speed pandemic, fueled by inequalities,” Tentros said today.

The COVAX mechanism, which aims to guarantee access to vaccines for the poorest countries, has so far distributed 89 million doses to 133 countries and territories participating in the program. However, supplies for this facility have been virtually exhausted this month, according to the WHO, which coordinates the program. “People have failed,” said the WHO chief.
