These are the ideal countries and cities to work in 2021

In the midst of a pandemic, teleworking may have gained ground and new work practices such as digital nomads may have been adopted, but the labor market is not stopping moving and workers are seeking better fortunes abroad. But what are the ideal countries and cities for a worker to relocate abroad? Canada is now considered the most desirable destination for workers, taking the lead from the US, in a rapidly changing work environment and under the difficult conditions caused by the coronavirus worldwide.

This is according to a poll conducted in 190 countries among 209,000 people by the Boston Consulting Group and the global recruitment alliance The Network, in the period October – December 2020.

The report's authors noted that the United States “has been hit hard by the inconsistent response to the pandemic, the adoption of nationalist policies and social unrest.”

In contrast, Canada and Australia, the third most desirable country for relocation, reportedly did “a much better job of pandemic management.”

As the study points out, “they are also considered to have better social systems and more open cultures than the US.”

Singapore and New Zealand were in the top-10 this year, reflecting how the Asia-Pacific countries also did a better job of curbing the coronavirus.

In terms of cities, the capital of the United Kingdom, London, remained the most desirable place to work in the world, followed by the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam.

“The reputation and reach of the British Commonwealth give London an aura that helps it overcome geopolitical uncertainties, such as those of Brexit,” the report said.

It makes sense, however, that the number of workers who said they were willing to move to another country for work fell from the first survey in 2014, by about 50% from 63%. A trend attributed in part to travel pandemics imposed by the pandemic and the massive shift to distance work, as people can now work for a company abroad without having to settle in it.
