As the vaccination program is underway in some countries, the resumption of regular international travel is no longer an abstract hope. The latest results from the Henley Passport Index – a ranking of all the world's passports by the number of destinations their visa-free holders can access – provide a revealing picture of what international travel will look like. after the pandemic, as countries around the world begin to selectively open their borders to international visitors.

The Henley Passport Index includes 199 passports and 227 travel destinations

Without taking into account the temporary and ever-evolving travel restrictions due to COVID-19, Japan remains firmly at No. 1 in the Index, which is based solely on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), with holders of Japanese passports (theoretically) have access to a record 193 visa-free destinations worldwide. Singapore remains in 2nd place, with a score for visa-free arrivals in 192 destinations, while Germany and South Korea again share 3rd place, each with access to 191 destinations.

Greece is in 8th place, with 186 destinations, along with the Czech Republic, Malta and Norway. Cyprus is in 13th place, with access to 176 destinations.

The country “climbed” by 22 places in the ranking since 2011, from 90th place with a score of 40 destinations, to 68th place, with a score of 77 destinations. However, the most notable country in the ranking is the United Arab Emirates, which continues to rise. In 2011, the UAE was ranked 65th with a ranking of 67 destinations, while today, thanks to Emirates' ongoing efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties with countries around the world, it is ranked 15th with a score of 174 destinations.
