The Government is purchasing services from 260 unemployed to strengthen controls to limit the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim is to strengthen, in human resources, the public services that carry out market surveillance in the context of the imposed controls to limit the spread of Covid-19 coronavirus disease.

The program of inspections will be intensified with the forthcoming easing of measures, which creates additional needs for supervision and even more and systematic inspections with emphasis on safety and health in the workplace and in retail. To this end, the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, which has been authorized by the Council of Ministers to proceed with a call for interest for the purchase of services, announces that from today Wednesday 24 February 2021 until Tuesday 2 March 2021 at 23:59, accepts applications from interested unemployed.

In the context of the Government's social goals for boosting the income of the unemployed, services will be purchased for a period of three months with the possibility of renewal for another three months, by 260 unemployed, who will meet the necessary criteria. In case there will be more interested parties who will meet the criteria, a draw will be held per province. The amount of earnings is set at € 1,000 per month for 40 working hours per week, as will be distributed by each competent Service. The unemployed who will be selected are obliged to pay contributions to the Social Insurance Fund as self-employed.

The 260 unemployed, having received training on the procedure and inspections to be carried out, will assist in the controls of trade and other economic activities.

The minimum criteria that the interested parties must meet are to be registered as unemployed in the Register of Unemployed of the Social Security Services, to have a diploma of a recognized Secondary School or a diploma, to speak Greek very well, to have a white criminal record and the male candidates to have certificate of military status proving the completion of military service or their legal discharge.

The application is submitted only electronically on the website of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, meci.gov.cy.
