After months of stagnation, the opposition is restoring the freezing of sales, while pushing for a discussion of the 13 bills submitted by the opposition parties in previous years and which are in the drawers of Parliament.
Yesterday, ELAM submitted a new draft law, which amends the law on transfer and mortgage of real estate, so as to suspend the sale of mortgaged real estate until May 31, 2023. With the freezing of sales for about a year, ELAM seeks to give time to the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance to consider the 13 pending bills.

According to the ELAM MPs who sign the proposal, every day thousands of citizens are under suffocating pressure, threats and blackmail by banking institutions and credit companies to sell their property. It should be noted that 12 of the draft laws, & nbsp; provide for changes in the law on sales and another concerns the access of borrowers to Justice, with the creation of special jurisdiction of a known sale court. Despite efforts by opposition parties to consolidate the bills to bring about radical changes in the legal framework for the divestitures, this has not been possible. In April 2021 and specifically in the last session of the Plenary Session of the Parliament with its previous composition, the 13 bills are included in the agenda.
The plenary session was episodic as some had been agreed and others finally in practice. & nbsp; After consultations and the handover of the parties, & nbsp; the draft law of AKEL and DIKO was initially approved, by which the sales were suspended until July 31, 2021. & nbsp; In fact, the freeze also covered real estate. Specifically, the sales of the main residence worth € 500 thousand, the commercial property with an annual turnover of € 2 million and 10 employees and the agricultural plots of € 250 thousand were suspended. Due to the approval of this legislation, when the rest were approved 13 proposals, DISY requested that their discussion be postponed and that they be returned to the new Parliament. A request with which the deputies of AKEL and DIKO agreed.
This attitude of the three parties provoked the rage of EDEK and Solidarity, as a result of which its deputies left the hall. At that time, the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance had disagreed with the 13 bills. Finally, it should be mentioned that last summer the Parliament approved another bill to suspend sales until the end of October 2021. First the law was referred back and then reported to the Supreme Court.
