On the occasion of the tragic death of the deer inside the Zoo of Limassol the Animal Party is taking a stand once again expressing their indignation with a protest event that will take place outside the Limassol Zoo on Sunday 18/12/2022.
In a statement, the Party for Animals states that “Once again, it witnesses another tragic and slow death of an animal inside the Limassol Zoo. The very recent tragic death of a deer leaves the Municipality of Limassol (it manages the Zoo) seriously exposed, but even more so those who are responsible for the daily care of the trapped animals inside the zoo”.
“It is a pity and unacceptable the attitude of the Municipality of Limassol, the Municipal Council and the Mayor because they have not received the messages and have not come to terms with the many and various scandals of the very poor management of the ZK”, adds the Party.
Reminds “the case of the tragic death of the Burton cat, animals were found in the garbage dump in Vati (and until today we have not seen the result of the investigation ordered by the DL) and now the deer”.
“The fact that the young deer's antlers were caught in metal mesh (which should not have been around the tree) resulting in its slow and torturous death shows us the great and unacceptable callousness and irresponsibility of those irresponsibly responsible. Also, as far as we know, the Mayor ordered an investigation into the cause of the animal's death. Here's the catch. I mean? The animal was caught on the tusks so it will be confirmed that the animal died of tusks? Now they will tell us about procedures? “.
At the same time, he says “Mr. Mayor, the Party for the Animals of Cyprus is not going to expect another death of an innocent animal. It has now been clearly proven that there is only one way forward for ZK Limassol, and it is none other than its closure. It no longer has any role and no educational significance or with the pretext of “children's entertainment” or any other reason to keep it running. The imprisoned animals in ZK are the only ones who are innocent without having committed a crime”.
He adds that “we completely agree with the initiative group “Our garden” who also ask for the zoo to be closed, to stop any projects, (such as the regeneration of the area) and they ask and we ask for more greenery and not warehouses and prisons for innocent animals”.
Also, he emphasizes that “for these reasons the Party for Animals Cyprus on Sunday, December 18 at 2:00 p.m. we form a human chain around the perimeter of the ZK and all together demand (and not request) the immediate closure of the ZK”.
Concluding the Party for Animals states that ” We invite the Mayor of Limassol to attend on Sunday at 14:30 to receive the relevant memorandum”.
