Olympiakos and Union remained in the “white” tie in the context of the 4th game of the second phase of the championship. The two teams now remain at -7 from Doxa and their attempt to stay in the A' Category is quite difficult. The “black and green” were better than the “crimson” who, however, had the most classic chance of the match with a goal by Katsiaris in the 27th minute.
First Half
Olympiacos came in hungry and scored two final tries in the first two minutes. Just in the 1st minute, Giakoumakis threatened with a strong shot, but Kostic showed his readiness and kicked it for a corner. Then Muktaris took the header and sent the ball over the posts.
The visitors answered in the 5th minute with Christofis. The Cypriot defender took the shot on the move from inside the area but the ball went against Bardy and ended up as a corner. The corner was again aimed at Christofis whose header was off target.
After that the pace remained fast but for about twenty minutes there was no good phase. The two teams were hungry and were pushing for the goal, but they did not manage to find themselves in a position to shoot.
The next phase came in the 26th minute and it was for the “crimson”. Katsiaris took the long shot but saw the ball stop at the left post of Mol.
The pace then dropped noticeably. The two teams played more conservatively without emphasizing the offensive part. In fact, Katsiaris' goal was the last final effort of the first half with 0-0 remaining until the end.
Second Half
In the replay we had a similar scenario to the second half of the first half. The two teams could not create phases and played quite slowly.
Olympiacos was better and had possession but could not break through the Union defense and threaten Kostic's goal. On the other hand, the “crimson” had a passive role and rarely stepped forward to attack.
The first condition came in the 70th minute. After a nice collaboration, Pehlivanis took the shot in the movement from inside the area but Dreksa made an excellent defense and stopped the ball's progress with projection.
In the second 45 minutes, the “black and green” actually seemed to want the victory more than the “crimson”. However, despite having constant possession, they fell behind in the final pass and were unable to finish a phase.
The two teams were tied at 0-0 and remained level on 23 points. The difference with Doxa is now in the points and it will take a lot of effort for them to manage to stay in the First Division.
