They “push” the bill for officials' advisors to 15 days

Fifteen days is postponed, by decision of the Parliament, the debate in the Plenary on the n/s concerning the advisors-partners of the PtD and Ministers, Deputy Ministers or even the Government Representative. The proposal for adjournment was taken at the meeting of party leaders and put to a vote in the Plenary.

The President of the Parliament Annita Dimitriou said that a decision was taken to postpone so that there is a consensus of the political parties and the executive power will be called again to submit its positions.

The President of the Institutions Committee Dimitris Dimitriou said that the /s and party amendments will be discussed next Wednesday in committee and this will be the only item on the agenda. The issue will return to the Plenary in 15 days, according to Mr. Dimitriou, adding “let everyone take their responsibilities”.

The purpose of the bill is to establish a legislative framework that regulates the procedure for concluding a private law employment contract between members of the government, i.e. the President of the Republic, ministers, deputy ministers or the Government Representative, and natural persons as advisors-partners to assist the their work on the basis of specific criteria, with a maximum limit of the duration of the term of office of the respective government or the term of office of each member of the government, as the case may be and subject to the conditions included in the contract in question.


AKEL's Parliamentary Representative Giorgos Loukaidis said that the meeting of leaders suggested a postponement and appealed not to hold a debate on the substance which will take place in 15 days. We must, he said, respect the procedures.

AKEL Member of Parliament Irini Charalambidou said that she is surprised by what is happening, adding that the bill has been examined repeatedly in the Institutions Committee, along with the amendments. He spoke of “a bargain behind which the parliament is dragging for four people”. At this point, the Speaker of the Parliament indicated to Mrs. Charalambidou that the issue was raised at the meeting of leaders and AKEL also agreed there.

The President of DIKO Nikolas Papadopoulos expressed surprise at the tension and passion for a an issue for which there was a decision at the leaders' meeting where the possibility of consensus with an agreed proposal was discussed.

Deputy DIKO Zacharias Koulias said that when the amendments were being debated, legal issues of substance and principle had arisen, and he asked the President of the Institutions Committee for an adjournment to find the right solution.

He spoke of unnecessary debate the President of EDEK Marinos Sizopoulos.

DIPA Member of Parliament Marinos Musiouttas asked to know the reason for the postponement and indicated that when his party asked him to submit amendments, he received a reply that the period for submitting amendments was closed. He also wondered why the change in the attitude of the Parliament when the executive power said that the bill is valid as filed.

The independent Member of Parliament  Andreas Themistokleous argued that some of the Members of Parliament are ostriches and vary their positions accordingly of where they stand  and who they are talking to and invited them to “find evidence of masculinity and come to the Committee to express their opinions”.

Independent MP Alexandra Attalidou questioned why the Parliament should legislate specifically people.
