The Contract for the Provision of Services for the Preparation of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SVAK) for the wider urban area of the free Province of Famagusta was signed today at the City Hall of Ayia Napa (Consultancy Services for the Development of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) for the Greater Urban Area of the Famagusta District).

The Contract was signed by Eleftherios Eleftheriou on behalf of the Government and the Director of the Public Works Department and Anna Karamontani on behalf of the Mobilityinchain Srl + ALA Planning Partnership Consultancy LLC. The signing ceremony of the Contract took place in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Giannis Karousos, the General Director of the Ministry, Stavros Michael and the Mayors and Commune Mayors of the free Province of Famagusta.

The elaboration of the Plan will have an cost of € 91,630 (including VAT) and a completion period of 12 months. It is noted that the Project is co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union at a rate of 85%, through the Operational Program “Competitiveness and Sustainable Development” and by 15% from national resources.

The object of the Contract is the provision of services for the development of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SBAK) for the free Province of Famagusta, which will take into account all relevant completed projects and plans, studies and projects that are promoted, as well as those that have implemented. Emphasis will also be placed on regeneration for the revitalization of urban nuclei, through specific measures of sustainable mobility. The elaboration of the SVAK of the free Province of Famagusta will be based on the new instructions of ELTIS (2019).

Sustainable mobility is linked to the broader goals to which Cyprus is committed at European level to sustainable cities, tackling climate change, reducing greenhouse gas and greenhouse gas emissions and using energy more efficiently.

Designing sustainable urban mobility means changing the daily lives and culture of citizens. The main goal of SVAK is to meet the different mobility needs of all our fellow citizens and to create a modern, attractive and green urban transport system by ensuring accessibility for all users, enhancing the quality of the urban environment and urban planning, promoting active mobility, ensuring personal safety and security in the transport system, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption and improving air quality and reducing noise. Promoting sustainable mobility in our cities improves the quality of life and enhances green growth.

With the completion of the study of the SVAK Free Province of Famagusta we take a big step that will bring us closer to the implementation of projects and actions for the free Province of Famagusta, which will upgrade it more broadly and turn it into a more sustainable and undoubtedly more ecological. more durable, and with socially equal structures. The aim is to improve the living conditions and daily life of the inhabitants of the area, offering the free Province of Famagusta the necessary supplies to meet the goals of sustainable development and social cohesion.
