Threats against Pediatricians for Vaccination of Minors - The data evaluated by the police

The case of threats unleashed in the last 24 hours against members of the Cyprus Pediatric Society is gaining momentum, due to the decision of its council to recommend to parents the vaccination of children aged twelve and over. As it is already known, a complaint was made to the cybercrime department yesterday, while both the Chief of Police and the Attorney General are aware of the case. In his morning statements to Politis 107.6, the Press Spokesman of the Police, Christos Andreou, clarified that the complaint was made through a law firm by the Cyprus Pediatric Society and not by a specific person.

The cybercrime sub-directorate, according to the representative, is investigating the complaint of the Pediatric Society, whose members received threats due to the decision to recommend the vaccination of children aged twelve and over.

The complaint, as he said, Mr. Andreou concerns posts that were made on Social Media and concerns threats and insults against pediatricians. According to him, the investigators who took over the case are evaluating the posts on the basis of the existing legislation in order to determine whether criminal offenses occur.

The spokesman for the force reminded that in the past cases related to similar issues have been brought to court. He clarified that the Police have the tools to identify the perpetrators, especially in terms of death threats, even if they are made through fake accounts.

In yesterday's statements, the president of the Cyprus Pediatric Society, Michalis Anastasiadis, stated that insults, derogatory comments and even threats against the lives of pediatricians were made and stressed that such unacceptable actions and behaviors could not be tolerated.

The Minister of Health, Michalis Hatzipandelas, will be briefed today by the Chief of Police on the matter.
