The extension of government support measures, through a graduated electricity subsidy and reduced VAT for food, as well as the question of compensation for the fire victims in Paphos, will occupy today's meeting of the Council of Ministers, under the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis.

The decree for the implementation of the measures expires at the end of the month and, as the deputy government representative Yannis Antoniou stated in Trito, the Council of Ministers, following a proposal from the minister of Finance, is expected today to decide on its extension.

As government sources reported to KYPE, the extension of the measures may concern a period of two months and is expected to be reviewed after the end of said period, in the light of the relevant of the European Commission's instructions.

It is worth noting that the Consumer Protection Service estimates that the benefit to the consumer, from the application of the zero rate to 11 categories of products, is between 7 and 8 euros in purchases of around 90 euros.

This will be followed by a special session of the Council of Ministers for the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026.
