A young mother died tragically last night, on New Year's Eve, in a traffic accident that happened in Limassol.
This is Marilena Kostaninidou from Gerasa. In the same accident, her husband and their three-month-old daughter were injured.
According to the press representative of the British Bases, Jan Kemal, the accident happened shortly after ten last night, on Akrotiri road – Kolossi instead of the village of Trahoni.
The young mother was a passenger in a car driven by her 23-year-old husband and in which their infant was riding.
Under still unclear circumstances, the driver lost control of the vehicle heading towards Kolossi, as a result of which it overturned and ended up in an adjacent ditch. The 25-year-old died instantly from the traffic accident. The infant was seriously injured and was taken by ambulance first to the Limassol hospital and then to the Makarios hospital where he is being treated.
The driver was injured and taken to the Limassol hospital where he underwent surgery. The state of health of the two injured, according to the police, is serious but out of danger.
Due to the traffic accident, the road was closed for several hours. British Bases Police are investigating the circumstances of the fatal road accident.
