Practical support for the regeneration of the Tochni riverbed in the center of the village
Hellenic Bank continues to do its bit for a greener Cyprus, organizing tree planting in the village of Tochni, in collaboration with the local authorities, the Forestry Department and the support of Mastercard.
The Group of Volunteers of Hellenic Bank once again gave a strong presence to the tree planting that took place within the framework of the pillars “Environment & Society” of the Bank's Sustainability Strategy on Saturday, January 28, 2023.
In particular, 1800 saplings and plants were planted, while a significant amount was granted which was collected by the Priceless Planet Coalition campaign of Hellenic Bank Mastercard cards. Additionally, the Bank's annual sponsorship was given to the Cyprus Philanthropic Association, which we support for the 4th consecutive year.
The tree planting took place in collaboration with the Department of Forestry and under the auspices of the Environment Commissioner, Mrs. Clelias Vassiliou, with the support of Tochnis Community Leader Mr. Pantelis Charalambous and the local authorities.
As Mr. Giorgos Christodoulidis, Head of the Human Resources Unit, pointed out, Hellenic Bank has been active in environmental issues for many years and continuously invests in activities and actions, recognizing the interaction of economic development with the environment. “Today we are breathing new life into the area, within the framework of the pillars “Environment & Society' of our Sustainability Strategy. Of course, this project could not be implemented without the support of the Environment Commissioner, the expertise of the Forestry Department and the practical contribution of the Hellenic Bank Volunteer Group, to whom I am especially grateful,” he said.
From for her part, the Environment Commissioner, Ms. Clelia Vassiliou emphasized that another tree planting is being carried out with great satisfaction and another 1800 trees are taking their place on the earth, benefiting the quality of our lives. “Our responsibility, beyond planting, is to take care of them to grow properly and healthily, to prosper and with them and us. Once again, we sincerely thank Hellenic Bank and the Department of Forestry for the beneficial long-term partnership”, he emphasized.
Finally, the president of the Tochnis Community Council, Mr Pantelis Charalambous, thanked Hellenic Bank on behalf of community of the village, emphasizing that its contribution to the project for the regeneration of the Tochni riverbed in the center of the village is particularly important. As he said, the community's resources are limited and with the contribution for this tree planting was the only way to complete the project.
