Report of the President of the Parliament on the death of Andreas Angelidis
The President of the Parliament, Annita Dimitriou referred to the loss of former MP Andreas Angelidis, paying tribute to his contribution.
Speaking in the Plenary before the day's order, she mentioned that Andreas Angelidis, born in Larnaca in 1946, served as a Member of Parliamentfor almost two five years, honoring the office with his high legal background and his dedication to the defense of the rule of law and good administration.
After completing his high school studies, he studied at the School of Law and the School of Economics and Political Sciences of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Upon graduating from the School of Law in 1971, he entered the bar and practiced law for over five decades, making significant contributions to administrative law jurisprudence.
He also said that Andreas Angelidis served as an MP and parliamentary representative of the Democratic Party. He participated in many parliamentary committees, among them the Foreign Affairs, Legal, Institutions, Control Committees and the Special Committee on the Pothen Esches. He was also a member of the Select Committee and the Special Parliamentary Committee on the fight against drugs, while he represented Cyprus in many parliamentary missions abroad. He added that in 2013 he joined the Citizens Alliance.
“Throughout his time in the Parliament, Mr. Andreas Angelidis stood out for his blunt, mild and moderate political speech, as well as for his patriotism and commitment to the rights of the Cypriot people who are being tested, while even after the “After his retirement from the parliamentary seats, he continued to be a loyal friend of the Parliament and a valuable supporter, providing every assistance in relation to the legislative work and contributing to the formation of important jurisprudence on serious constitutional issues,” he said.
He said. also that with the support of the Parliament, issued an important legal document for the codification of the general principles of administrative law, which contributed and continues to contribute to the deepening of this field.
He added that Mr. Angelidis was also an active member of the Association of Former Parliamentarians of the Republic of Cyprus, fighting for the fair demands of former parliamentarians.
