The favorite holiday destinations of Europeans for next summer are Greece and Spain, according to TUI the largest travel group in the world.
More specifically, the island of Crete and the Canary Islands are at the top of the preferences of Europeans for this year. This comes from the group's “Holiday Atlas-Summer 2021”, which rates TUI's most popular holiday destinations in Europe.
Crete, which ranks first in the list of destinations preferred by TUI customers in Europe, is followed by the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, Rhodes, Tenerife and Antalya.
This Atlanta also includes an overview of the preferences of each country. For the first time, Crete is the top destination for the Germans. The Greek island rises two places in the ranking compared to the previous year and thus replaces the first Mallorca for a number of years, which is ranked second. Rhodes and Kos also move up two places and occupy positions three and four.
This year, British holidaymakers prefer Dalaman on the Turkish Riviera, followed by Cyprus, Antalya, Tenerife and Rhodes.
As in previous years, the Greek islands are the number one destination for Finns, Danes, Norwegians and Swedes, followed by Mallorca, Antalya and Cyprus.
The Belgians and Dutch prefer Antalya and the Turkish Riviera this summer, while the two Greek islands of Crete and Rhodes, as well as Mallorca and Tenerife are also very popular.
This time, the French holidaymakers chose Sicily as their favorite destination and Greek and Spanish destinations follow. TUI, however, points out that the French would be happy to vacation in their country this summer as well.
TUI's Atlas shows that Greece and Spain continue to be in high demand. Greece was already the most popular travel destination in the summer of 2020. Low COVID-19 pollution rates, extensive hygiene measures and a wide variety of alternatives contributed to Greece's success.
In Spain, the Canary Islands are the top booking destinations. However, TUI expects an increase in bookings for the Balearic Islands and Turkey in the coming weeks. This already results from the search of customers on TUI booking pages for various countries.
Another important aspect of booking is that there is an increased demand for higher quality hotels and superior rooms. “The willingness to offer yourself something special this summer shows the love of Europeans for travel and the desire to spend their holidays in other European countries,” according to TUI.
